According to a published article in QJM, an international journal of medicine, the prevalence of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are increasing significantly worldwide – citing vascular complications of diabetes as accounting for principle mortality and morbidity from the condition. Authors also report that musculoskeletal manifestations of diabetes are common and though not life threatening are an important cause of morbidity, pain and disability. Joints affected by diabetes include peripheral joints and the axial skeleton.
